Terrarium Gardens for Kids

Gardens come in all shapes and sizes. Get creative as you learn about the needs of little plants for indoors, and what better place to grow them than in an upcycled glass container. Bring along a glass bowl, vase, jar or other container and see what you can create for your room. (Containers up to 20 cm in size).

Eco Crafts

Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Re-purpose, Recycle! In our zero waste workshop we explore different ways we can make a positive impact on our environment in our everyday lives! Through different crafts such as beeswax reusable food wrap and T-Shirt tote bags we turn old into new and learn about how small changes can make a big difference in the world around us!

Starting Vegetables from Seed

Learn about seeds, how they grow and what they need to become healthy thriving plants. We will be planting up trays of seeds for the JMG gardens as well as take home, so bring along your garden gloves. Don’t forget about planning for our native pollinators too! They need flowers to keep them happy and we will include flowers along with our vegetable and herb seeds.

Fairy Gardens

These gardens are fun to create … even parents enjoy making them and here is a chance to participate with your child in a morning mini garden making session! We will make these take-home gardens for indoor/outdoor use, using some natural materials gathered from the garden. Adults are welcome to stay or drop off. *All materials are provided.*

Making Your Own Bird House

Our gardens depend on birds to thrive so let’s look at what birds need for nesting and create a safe place for them to raise their young. We will be using wood, hammers and nails to assemble our pre-cut kits. We need big hands along to help handle the tools safely, so 1 adult is required for each child.

Pro-d Day camps

Junior Master Gardeners Day Camp

Come grow with us! This dynamic day camp program educates youth about horticulture, health, nutrition, environmental science, leadership and life skills using fun and creative activities. This hands-on, outdoors garden camp keeps participants active planning, creating, maintaining and harvesting in our very own JMG Garden Plot, with the help of Victoria Master Gardeners. As we learn about growing plants and food, we also cultivate an understanding of our native pollinators and the ecosystems that support our gardens!

Dates: Fridays: Feb 22, April 12, May 10   

Time:  9-4 pm   Cost:  $38/child   Ages: 5 – 12 years


Garden Club is an open concept learning opportunity for children and youth of all ages who enjoy gardening and exploring the out of doors. Each month we meet to a assess our plot and participate in seasonable gardening with lots of hands-on activities. Our tasks range from creating Lasagna Gardens and container planters to seeding, weeding, and mulching. There is no end to the possibilities!

Club Dates: 9:30 am – 11:30 am (Saturdays 2019 – Mar 2, April 6, May 4, June 1, Sept 7, Oct 5, Nov 2, Dec 7)
Cost: $10/2 hr session
Ages: All ages welcome! Children under 6 need to be with a supervising/participating adult

JMG (Junior Master Gardener) GARDEN CAMP (full day)

This is a hands-on gardening and nature program, that inspires us to be the best land stewards we can.

In our own JMG garden, we learn to grow our own food crops and support the various ecosystems with

help from Victoria Master Gardener Association members.

TIMES: 9:00 am – 4:00 pm

Join us for some gardening that includes planting, maintenance, harvesting and craft some garden

art for your home and garden using a variety of mediums in this inspiring outdoor atmosphere … The

JMG (Junior Master Gardener) ECO-friendly CAMP (full day)

It is easy to make your own teas, bath salts, paper, tote bags and more. Together we will

learn about plants known as herbs and explore how to use them and other household materials and

reusables to create a zero waste lifestyle.

DATES: August 6 – 9 (4 day camp due to BC DAY)

STORIES IN THE GARDEN is a bi-weekly storytime designed around a theme that explores subjects such as gardens, bugs, and nature through stories and related crafts. Children under 5 years must be accompanied by an adult.

Dates: Mondays: April 29, May 13, May 27    

Time: 10:00 am – 11:00 am

Cost: $5/child, free admission for an accompanying adult  

Ages:2+ years (designed for younger children, however, siblings are welcome.

Host a children’s birthday in The Gardens at HCP for an exciting nature experience. Choose from one of our popular themed parties, (Garden Fairies or Nature Habitats) or let us work with you to create a unique event with another theme.

2-hour booking for up to 12 children is $150, including a 30-minute nature walk/hunt, 30-minute craft/activity, and 1 hour to host your family/friends.
