This two part class will introduce absolute beginners and novices to painting in acrylics. This is a great class for new painters wanting to learn the basics before joining our outdoor painting sessions. Participants will learn about using and selecting materials, including paints, mediums, painting surfaces, wet palettes, easels and brushes. You will also learn about how to mix colour with a limited palette. Once you have completed this two part class, you will be ready to take our guided plein-air sessions to practice what you have learned. All materials are provided and included in your fee. These classes will be held physically distanced, indoors with a maximum of 10 participants. Masks required when not seated.

I have been involved as an observer, student, teacher and participant in the visual arts throughout my life. I have been painting professionally for the last 20 years, mainly here on the Saanich Peninsula. I plein air paint weekly with my Peninsula Plein Air group and give painting lessons throughout the year.
I prefer local landscapes and seascapes as my subject matter, both of which are plentiful here. Texture, colour and surprise weather patterns all contribute to my painting. There is a painting in every direction!
After retiring from teaching art fulltime and wanting to paint for myself, I have been working toward a credible body of visual artwork using acrylics as my medium. I look for what is visually interesting or important within a specific moment in time and aim to capture it on canvas. I like to present the subject matter faithfully, yet retain the look and feel of a painting, rather than a photograph.
I exhibit my work in and around the Lower Vancouver Island area as well as the lower mainland. I have received a number of awards and have been juried into numerous art shows. I am currently a member of the FCA, SPAC, ArtSea, and other local arts organizations.
