Let’s imagine…….Learning flower photography while being surrounded by the spectacular gardens at HCP. Spring is the perfect time to capture the colours and forms of flowers.
Jana loves to share her passion for photography and her commitment to natural floral beauty. She has created workshops for those individuals who want to learn how to capture stunning images of flowers. These workshops focus on the basics of photography. They are a combination of technical information to help participants get the most out of their current gear, as well as mastering the elements and principles with different compositions, angles, and apertures. Instructions are always tailored to participants’ skill level and their individual needs. Emphasis will be on supporting each participant in achieving an individual approach to floral photography. The ultimate goal is to have participants develop a deeper connection with flowers through the camera lens…..and of course, have fun along the way.
The class will be small (up to 10 participants). The first 20 minutes will be a brief lecture on technical and creative approaches to flower photography, mainly concentrate on the understanding of light, composition, and subject selection during this photo shoot. This is followed by 1 hour of practical outdoor session to put the acquired knowledge into practice with a 10 minute to wrap-up at the end.

Jana Zachariou is a Czech born photographer living on Salt Spring Island in southern British Columbia. After having lived in various locations around the world, she chose to call Canada her home. Jana resided for more than 20 years in eastern Canada before she sold her family business and settled on the beautiful West Coast. That was the beginning of Jana’s endless love affair with a camera. Her first real interaction with photography actually started in front of the lens as a fashion model in the mid 80’s. Jana, however, found her true calling on the other side of the lens and her knowledge of photography is entirely self taught. This informal training enabled her to develop a unique style that makes her images very recognizable. Photography opened a door to an aberrant way of seeing and appreciating the world around her. Jana’s ability to capture inspiring imagery came about, in part, because of the abundance of natural scenery that surrounds her on the West Coast. The visual drama and artistry of her photographs are born of a keen eye for the many moods of the natural world. Her quest to become a better photographer will never cease. She is constantly chasing, with greater passion than ever before, those rare magical moments when the “Perfect Light” embraces nature to its fullness to capture the “Perfect Shot” When she is asked about her favourite image, Jana’s reply is “I haven’t taken it yet”.
