Introduction to Bookbinding: Cute lil’ Notebook

Prioritize time for your creativity! In this online workshop you will make and embellish a notebook. You will learn foundational concepts of bookbinding, use bookbinding tools and alternate tools you may already have on hand. This notebook is highly customizable with stamps, stickers, decorative inserts and a centre-fold pocket. Check out these videos:

After registration, you will be emailed a zoom link before the event.
You will need the following tools and materials (everything is available at Micheal’s, you can also find a lot of these supplies at a dollar store)

  • Tools to cut paper in a straight line
    • option 1 – box cutter, metal ruler, cutting mat
    • option 2 – scissors, ruler, pencil
    • option 3 – paper cutter
  • Needle and thread
    • 0.5mm or 1mm cotton/hemp cord and 1 needle that fits your cord
    • Thinner string (sewing thread or 2 threads of embroidery) and 1 needle that fits your string
  • Paper
    • 1 piece cardstock 8 ½” x 11”
    • 5 pieces of white paper 8 ½” x 11”
    • Old calendar and/or magazine and/or decorative paper
  • Glue stick
  • 1 Thumbtack (one you can easily hold on to)
  • 1 button
  • 8 or so stickers
  • 1-2 stamps
  • 1-2 ink pads
  • Needle threader
  • Staple remover (scissors work well too)

Optional: Bring a palette knife or toothpicks if you want to try using them when working with glue.

 Instructor Bio: Angelique Bulosan

Angelique offers linocut and bookbinding workshops that are highly accessible because materials and tool rental are provided. Her goal is to support a relaxed, friendly and inclusive workshop, online or in-person, where participants can connect with and inspire each other.
Being welcoming and inclusive is a priority – Angelique currently leads social and racial justice projects (advocating for BIPOC, LGBTQ2+ and people with disabilities including seniors). She volunteers on the Board of Directors for the Esquimalt Community Arts Hub and volunteers to co-coordinate Sweet Refuge, a meditation group.
Angelique is a Filipino-Canadian, self-taught, multi-media artist, born and raised in Victoria, BC, Canada, traditional Lekwungen Territory, making small batches of art in her home studio. Learn more at AngeliqueBulosan.com
