Plant Identification and Culture Workshops

This is a monthly class in which participants will be introduced to 20 new plants in each session.

If you are a new gardener, new to Victoria or just want to brush up on your plant knowledge, this is a great place to get started. This is a monthly class where participants will be introduced to 20 new plants which fit with our local climate. Plants are selected for our local growing conditions and the value they bring to the garden. Part of the class will be in the classroom and part will be out in the gardens to view the plants for that month. Dress for the weather and bring something to take notes.

Meet the Instructor: Jane Tice

After what seemed like more than one lifetime spent working indoors in retail management, Jane woke up one day and said, enough. Her first garden had awakened an interest and as she came from a long line of gardeners, thought it really must be bred in the bone. Her sister Susan had already made the transition to horticulture from the hospitality industry and never looked back. Jane enrolled in the full-time program here at the Pacific Horticulture College, and at graduation began working as a maintenance gardener for private clients. She began to teach the Plant Identification class for the college in 2012 and Practical Skills in 2018. She attained her Red Seal in Landscape Horticulture in 2020. Jane has met many ardent gardeners over the years and to a one, they would say that gardening is a life long learning experience and she couldn't agree more. There is always something new; a discovery in the science of soil, the idea that trees communicate with each other, new plants to learn and these days, how to adapt gardens in a changing climate. Come and learn with her.
