John Close / Instructor

Field of expertise and experience:
In 2009, with no prior experience, education or training in turf or running a business, John Close thought it would be a good idea to start a premium natural lawn care business! John quickly realized he didn’t know he was talking about so he devoured every turf book he could find and even listened to business podcasts while he worked! He was eventually mentored by Paul Tukey, the Godfather of Organic Lawn Care (and author of The Organic Lawn Care Manual). It was a steep learning curve as John sought to translate his head knowledge and idealism to practical wisdom and a system that actually worked on a West Coast lawn. 9 years later, Lush Eco Lawns and Gardens Ltd and its dozen employees delight hundreds of customers from Nanoose Bay to Oak Bay and everywhere in between and Lush’s system of lawn care is taught at nurseries all across the Island! Lush has won several business awards and in 2016, John was named a Top 20 Under 40 for Vancouver Island. John’s super excited to have the opportunity to share his practical, hands on system to growing lush chemical free turf.
