Program Overview

This course will give participants a comprehensive overview and introduction to the floral design industry. Participants will be introduced to decorating with florals, floriculture and botany, point of sale marketing and event floristry. Other topics include consulting sales practice and designing floral projects. You will learn about some of the basic roles of a floral designer through a series of practical projects.
After the program, participants will be familiar with the floral design environment and be prepared to handle various projects. You will understand how to apply the principles and elements of design, the botanical aspect of plants and flowers, how to do a client consultation, create and budget, design projects and make creative decisions. The course will also deal with creating effective presentation materials for the business environment.
The art of floral design requires expertise with colour, materials, shape and space. Floral designers must understand how flowers and foliage become tools to achieve the right arrangement for the occasion. The three-level Floral Design Program frames this understanding in a creative and business context to allow for artistic arrangements that satisfy the aesthetics of the designer and the customer.
Through active, hands-on learning experiences, you will understand how to integrate theory and practice to produce the perfect design using the elements and principles of design and understand about the perspectives necessary to become a junior designer.

Throughout this program, you will develop the following skills:

Floral design
Botany knowledge related to floral design
Sales
Artistry
Design development
Creating floral arrangements
