Sculpture in the Gardens

The VISG is active in the arts community, participating in shows, galleries and exhibitions and in keeping with the mandate of the VISG to increase public awareness and appreciation of sculpture in private and public spaces, the Guild has entered into a partnership with the
Gardens at
Horticulture Centre
of the Pacific.

Almost from the beginning there has been sculpture in the Gardens at HCP. The installation of the six sculptures from the VISG is a continuation of the tradition; increasing the relevance of the gardens to the greater community and bringing pleasure to all.

A portion of the proceeds from the sale of the pieces will go to support the Gardens at HCP.

The Vancouver Island Sculptors Guild

The Guild was founded in 1994 by a small group of dedicated sculptors who wished to collaborate on art shows and to increase public awareness and appreciation of sculpture. Over the years the Guild membership has expanded and new members welcomed. The first VISG show was held July 30th 1994 in Bastion Square, Victoria.

Within the membership, sculptors share techniques, exchange resource information and support each other with respect and camaraderie.

In 2003 the Guild split into southern and northern island chapters. The South Island chapter has continued to be active and includes sculptors from Victoria, the Gulf Islands and northward.

VICTORIA, BC. The Horticulture Centre of the Pacific (HCP) is growing more than plants these days with life sized art displayed throughout the Gardens thanks to a partnership with the Vancouver Island Sculptures Guild (VISG).

“We are very excited at this opportunity to show members of the Sculptor’s guild work in such a beautiful and appropriate setting.” said club president David Hunwick. “There is truly a synergy between the sculptures and the garden landscape of the HCP.”

Works on exhibit are from artists Daniel Cline, Audrey Van Eerden, Bob Williams, David Hunwick and the late Jan Johnson.

“We are pleased to add our 32nd partnership to the Gardens”, said HCP’s executive director Roger Charles. “The Sculptures Guild installation in the Fuchsia Garden plus the Bonsai Club’s 18 pieces in the Takata Japanese Garden are just a few more reasons for the public to come and visit the Horticulture Centre.”

HCP is a charitable non-profit that operates 10 acres of demonstration garden and 93 acres of conservation area on Quayle Road in Royal Oak. Garden hours are 9-4 daily and regular admission applies.
