Landscape Horticulture Certificate

The 10-month horticulture technician program is designed for students who seek to become full time professional gardeners. The training allows the student either to work for landscaping firms, nurseries, golf courses, municipalities, and much more. Also, many of our students have gone on to build their own successful horticulture businesses.  We are now accepting applications for the January 2013 program!

Part Time Landscape Horticulture Courses

The PHC also offers a variety of part time courses for those wishing to gain credits towards the Landscape Horticulture Certificate. The certificate may be achieved following 2 years of part time courses and over 500 hours of practical skills.  The courses may also be taken individually and in any order.  You can start anytime a new course begins.

2012 Level 3 and 4 Part-Time Apprenticeship Programs

PHC is offering the Level 3 and 4 Horticulture Apprenticeship programs on a part-time basis in 2012.  This is an excellent opportunity to further your horticulture education while still working in the field.  The 2012 Level 3 part-time program is underway, but contact the college office if you are interested in a Level 3 full-time program over the winter.

ONLINE Course Offerings

Botany and Soils: These courses provide horticulture enthusiasts with useful information about the biology of plants and the soil that they require to grow.  Each course is 50 hours spread over 10 weeks. Successful completion of each course results in 2.0 credits towards our part-time Landscape Horticulture Certificate program.  Tuition is $450 plus $25 for the textbook for each course.  If you are interested in taking either Botany and/or Soils online this Fall, please contact the Program Facilitator: collegeadmin@hcp.ca or call (250) 479-3210.  Course dates will be posted this summer.

  

Pesticide Applicator's License/Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Course

***New spring dates have been tentatively scheduled, pending a minimum number of students***

Friday May 25 and Saturday May 26 8:30am – 4pm, exam written on Sunday May 27 9am – 12pm.  Please contact the college office if you are interested in this course!

We offer the BC Pesticide Applicator's License course and exam at the College in the spring and in the fall.  Cost for the course is $400, which includes the textbooks and the exam fee. We offer 10% off the cost to our current part-time students.  The next offering of the course will be in October 2012.  *Note that we can schedule additional courses for groups of 6 or more.*
